Five years ago, Abigail Washburn found herself on stage in a smoke-filled Beijing club playing banjo and singing old-time Appalachian music—in Chinese—to a packed house. Joined by fellow banjo player Bela Fleck, cellist Ben Sollee, and fiddler Casey Driessen, she has created a new sound which challenges traditional notions of country and culture. In this special event, Washburn, Driessen and Sollee will perform material from her CD entitled Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet, which will also be recorded for the Nat Geo Music Channel series “Geo Sessions.”
