All Seattle 2012 student matinees are full with lengthy waiting lists.

National Geographic Live Student Matinees offer Seattle area students entertaining and visually spectacular presentations by leading explorers, scientists, filmmakers, and photographers.

In the season opener on January 31st celebrated photographer Brian Skerry plunges students into the marine world with intimate and stunning portraits from our planet’s oceans. On February 28th photographer Catherine Karnow presents a multi-dimensional view of Vietnam, including its landscape, war legacy, and resilient culture. Next, on April 3, the mystery of Genghis Khan’s final resting place and the new technologies used to locate archaeological sites is presented by research scientist and engineer Albert Lin along with National Geographic archaeology fellow Fredrik Hiebert. Acclaimed photographer, audience-favorite, and gifted storyteller Mattias Klum provides a dynamic tour of some of the planet’s remaining wild places and charismatic wildlife in his May 1 student matinee. The season closes in a rush of adrenaline on May 22 with extreme filmmaker, adventurer and conservationist Bryan Smith bringing students “on assignment” to British Columbian white-water rivers, aboard harrowing Alaskan bush flights, and deep into Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula.

What teachers are saying about Nat Geo Live Student Matinees:

“Our school comes to National Geographic Live every year. It’s always a hit with our students. It’s nice when the subject coincides with something we’re studying in school but I feel like our priority when coming to these events is opening up our students’ eyes to unusual and wonderful experiences in the world.”

“This was the best event our students have ever attended. The presenters were successful at retaining the audience’s attention and keeping everyone engaged. Many of the pictures and details created discussions after the lecture. Thanks so much for the opportunity!”

“I am ever grateful to National Geographic for this enrichment of my students’ lives.”

“The event was wonderful. We couldn’t have asked for a better message. The students enjoyed it and not one said it was boring. The most impressive information that they got out of the lecture was that you can be successful even if you don’t start out that way.”

“Thank you for the quality of program you deliver. I appreciate the opportunity to attend and would love to
continue to bring students to NG Live presentations in the future. Only good things can come out of students having this opportunity. Thank you again.”
