In this moving and dramatic feature film exploring the impact of HIV on multiple generations, the young man Ulyssis reads the diaries of his dead mother—which launches him on a painful odyssey to confront his father and discover the truth about his parents and the circumstances of his own birth. A collaboration between the Chicago-based team of producer Dalia Tapia and director Juan Jose Frausto, Silent Shame explores themes of sexual and cultural identity, self-discovery, and the destructive impact of the “closet” in the era of AIDS. A selection in the Chicago Latino and San Antonio Film Festivals, the film offers an unforgettable portrait of a family destroyed by fear and denial.
