Zeb Hogan displays a chao phraya catfish, which is now extremely rare in the wild and in urgent need of study to assess its conservation status.
As director of the National Geographic Megafishes Project, aquatic ecologist Zeb Hogan has been studying freshwater ecosystems on six continents; waters that support numerous species and people. His goal is to document more than 20 species of fish at least two meters in length or 200 pounds in weight, many of which are now threatened by pollution and overfishing. In the process, he’s wrangled bear-size catfish, half-ton stingrays, giant trout, and sturgeon. He’ll share highlights of the expedition and its ecological relevance.
