In 2005, after 11 years as a management consultant, Roz Savage dropped everything, and with only a few years of crew experience entered the Atlantic Rowing Race as the first solo woman ever to compete in that race. After 103 days of storms, solitude, and soul-searching, she arrived to an ecstatic welcome in Antigua. Her extreme transformation from office worker to adventurer has captivated a worldwide audience and is the subject of her book Rowing the Atlantic (Simon & Schuster).
Savage is now attempting to become the first woman to row solo across the Pacific, and has completed the first two stages—from California to Hawaii and Hawaii to Tarawa. She will attempt the third stage (Tarawa to Australia) of this epic journey in 2010, and is using her voyage to inspire grassroots environmental stewardship.
Students will be inspired by this purpose-driven adventurer. (Recommended for grades 5–8.)
Registration opens December 8. Seats are limited so register early! Registrations will not be taken over the phone.
