Dr. Lisa Dabek confers with a leader of a community in Papua New Guinea.
Photograph by Ryan Hawk, Woodland Park ZooKnown as the “ghost of the forest,” the tree kangaroo of Papua New Guinea faces extinction as its habitat disappears. Director of Tree Kangaroo Conservation and a National Geographic-Waitt grantee, Lisa Dabek researched these hard-to-track tree dwellers for eight years before seeing her first. Join her as she reports on her groundbreaking work fitting tree kangaroos with Crittercams to film their movements and helping locals create protected areas where they can live. She will be joined by Kyler Abernathy, Director of Research for National Geographic Remote Imaging, who will talk about the role of Crittercam in this research.
