Photograph by Joel Sartore

Best known for his photographs of wildlife, particularly endangered species, Joel Sartore wields his camera in the battle to conserve natural habitats. This mission has taken him to some of the world’s most remote and dangerous places, where he has risked illness and exposed himself to attacks by deadly animals in order to get images that bear testimony to the plight of our world. His entertaining presentations blend humor with powerful conservation messages and award-winning photography of wildlife and the places they inhabit.

For a story published in the November 2010 issue of National Geographic, Sartore tracked the annual migrations of iconic North American species, from bobcats and pronghorn antelopes, to the amazing journeys of monarch butterflies and sandhill cranes. Step behind the camera with this distinguished wildlife photographer as he shares amazing stories and images of animals on the move. Presented in connection with Nat Geo Channel’s Great Migrations global television event.
