Thoughtfulness begins with seeing. My job as a photographer is to make that seeing easier. What we appreciate, what fascinates us, we will also want to preserve.” – Mattias Klum

“We are the first generation with the knowledge that we humans constitute a geological force on a planetary scale. Our stewardship of all natural systems on Earth will determine our own future.” – Johan Rockström

One of National Geographic’s most popular speakers, Mattias Klum returns to report on his latest expeditions in the world’s last wild places. Join him on an awe-inspiring journey to such far-flung destinations as Iceland, West Papua, and Botswana, and experience nature’s beauty and diversity through striking new photographs and video.

For the last 10,000 years, humans have enjoyed uniquely favorable environmental conditions. But in the last half century, we have stretched our planet’s resilience. Klum maintains the next decade will be critical, and he brings us an up-to-date report on the planet based on a forthcoming book, The Human Quest: Prospering Within Planetary Boundaries, co-authored with prominent scientist Johan Rockström, who will be joining him in Seattle. Rockström, who has shared the stage with Al Gore and Bill Clinton, was named 2009’s “Swede of the Year” for his work bridging science on climate change to policy and society.

With humor, eloquence, and optimism, this dynamic team blends award-winning imagery with groundbreaking insights to deepen our understanding of the ways our natural world is both changing but also taking care of itself. The result is a thrilling roller-coaster ride to the Earth’s richest corners, including insights on how humans can continue to flourish on a healthy planet.
