Get a glimpse at the next wave of important discoveries as five distinguished National Geographic explorers offer a fascinating look at their current projects and offer insights on the future of exploration.
Spencer Wells, a National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence (EIR) and director of the Genographic Project, takes us on a journey into the history of human migration through the analysis of DNA contributed by thousands of people from around the world. Cultural anthropologist and EIR Wade Davis will share insights into the diversity of human culture and what he has learned from traditional peoples about different ways of living and thinking. Paul Sereno is a paleontologist and EIR who has discovered more than two dozen new species of dinosaurs on five continents. Representing the field of natural history, wildlife conservationists and filmmakers Dereck and Beverly Joubert are a husband-and-wife EIR team who have been documenting wildlife in Africa for more than 25 years. They will be joined by Ethiopian paleontologist Zeray Alemseged of the California Academy of Sciences and a National Geographic Emerging Explorer, whose exploration of the Dikika paleoanthropological site is yielding important clues about the four-million-year history of human evolution. Celebrate the spirit of exploration with these outstanding scientists, conservationists, and visionaries who push the boundaries in their respective fields. This program will be moderated by Boyd Matson, host of the radio program National Geographic Weekend.
The National Geographic Museum will be open until 6:45 p.m. this evening for a private viewing of the exhibition: Lions & Leopards: The Work of Dereck and Beverly Joubert.
