Mitchell Teplitsky’s film Soy Andina tells the story of two women who explorer and affirm their Peruvian identity through dance. NĂ©lida Silva, a performer of Peruvian traditional dance, is an immigrant living in New Jersey when she decides to return to her Andean hometown of Llamellin to host the annual fiesta patronal. Cynthia Paniagua, a native of New York City, travels to Peru on a Fulbright scholarship to study dance and explore her own Peruvian roots. The screening will be followed by a dance demonstration by Cynthia Paniagua, and a conversation with Ms. Paniagua and filmmaker Mitchell Teplitsky.
Co-presented with the Embassy of Peru.
