Beer Tasting & Brewing in the Age of Pirates

Past Event

Beer Tasting & Brewing in the Age of Pirates

Taste a variety of pirate and seafaring themed Heavy Seas beers, including several authentic cask ales, one in a wooden firkin. The golden age of piracy occurred at the same time the British created IPA, after discovering that extra hops had an antibacterial effect during the beer’s long journey to India, crossing the equator twice.

The tasting experience will be brought to life with acclaimed beer historian Richard Wagner, who will demonstrate colonial era brewing techniques using vintage equipment. The event also includes access to the Real Pirates exhibition, a commemorative Heavy Seas sampling glass, as well as artisan charcuterie courtesy of Whole Foods and Cabot Cooperative. Must be 21, ID required.

Sea chanteys and other songs of sea and shore will be performed by the Washington Revels Maritime Voices.
