“A few years ago I wrote two versions of my obituary, the one I wanted and the one I was heading for. I realized I needed to make some big changes if I was going to look back and be proud of my life. I am making those changes, and now I have a life worth living.”Roz Savage
Enjoy an evening of dramatic stories and jaw-dropping videos shot on the high seas—and meet an inspiring adventurer who gave up the security of an office job to pursue her dream of rowing the worlds’ oceans. In 2005, after 11 years in business, Roz Savage dropped everything, and with only a few years of crew experience behind her became the first solo woman ever to compete in the Atlantic Rowing Race. Since then, she has rowed more than 11,000 miles with 3.5 million oar strokes, and has spent nearly a year of her life at sea in a 23-foot rowboat. Her inspiring transformation from management consultant to ocean rower, described in her book Rowing the Atlantic, has captured the imagination of people around the world.
Savage is also the first woman to row solo across the Pacific, and completed the final stage of that epic voyage in 2010 when she arrived in Papua New Guinea. In April 2011, she chased history again with an attempt to row across the Indian Ocean from Australia to Mauritius—her longest single row, which can be followed in real time at www.rozsavage.com. A passionate advocate for responsible stewardship of the oceans, Savage uses her expeditions to draw attention to such issues as plastic pollution, urging each of us to make more conscious consumer choices.
Breaking news: Roz has just completed her Indian Ocean crossing (October 4, 2011)! Read all about it on her website. Congratulations, Roz!
