Ten years ago, the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft reached the vicinity of Saturn after a seven-year journey from Earth, and immediately began sending incredible images that became a viral hit. Since then, Cassini-Huygens has been exploring the ringed planet, its mysterious moons, the stunning rings, and its complex magnetic environment. Get an update on this ongoing voyage of interplanetary discovery, and find out what we’ve learned about our solar system thanks to Cassini-Huygens.
The conversation will be moderated by Jamie Shreeve, National Geographic’s Executive Editor for Science. Panelists will include:
Dr. Linda Spilker, Cassini Project Scientist, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who will talk about the Cassini Mission in its ten years since reaching Saturn;
Dr. Kevin Hand, Deputy Chief Scientist, Solar System Exploration, who will talk about the quest to seek life on Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons;
Dr. Natalie Batalha, Mission Scientist for the Kepler Mission, searching for Earth-like planets around other stars.
Dr. Penelope Boston, Director, Cave and Karst Studies, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, who will talk about what forms life on other planets might take.
