Jean-Pierre Isbouts

Author & Historian

Jean-Pierre Isbouts is a bestselling National Geographic author, international motivational speaker and an award-winning filmmaker, whose work celebrates the beauty and art of magical places around the globe. A doctoral professor at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, CA, he gained worldwide renown with his 2006 book The Biblical World, which became an international bestseller and is now in its fourth print. This success led to a series of National Geographic books, including the bestsellers In the Footsteps of Jesus (2011) and The Story of Christianity (2014).

A charismatic speaker, Prof. Isbouts is a top-rated lecturer at venues around the world, covering a range of subjects on international travel, history, art, and exploration. He is also the director of films featuring Hollywood stars such as Charlton Heston, Leonard Nimoy, Dick van Dyke and Morgan Freeman. As both an accomplished filmmaker and historian, he was chosen to direct the official motion picture on the life of Walt Disney, first released in 2001 and again in 2016 under the title Walt: The Man Behind the Myth.

In early 2013, Prof. Isbouts authenticated a canvas discovered in a Swiss vault as Leonardo’s first version of the Mona Lisa, predating the Louvre version by at least seven years. This led to his book The Mona Lisa Myth (2013), which prompted scores of articles in the press and a BBC TV Special, Secrets of the Mona Lisa. Some of his other books, including The Story of Christianity and The Archaeology of the Bible (both published by National Geographic) are now in development by GRB Entertainment as long-form TV series.

As a musicologist, Dr. Isbouts has also produced a number of recordings by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and other ensembles and soloists, including works by 19th century composers such as Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Fauré, Satie, Franck, and Debussy.
